Breck Administrator Named Columbus Academy's First Female Head

On October 12, Head of School Edward Kim announced that Upper School Director Melissa Boocock Soderberg has accepted the position of Head of School at Columbus Academy in Ohio. She will be the eighth Head of School and the first female head in school history when she assumes her new position on July 1, 2013.

Ms. Soderberg will leave Breck after a distinguished 20-year career as Dean of Students, Director of College Counseling, Upper School Director, teacher and coach.

In making the announcement Kim wrote, "We will miss her passion, intellect and sense of humor. She has served Breck with distinction."

Kim also noted that her career trajectory is also a testament to Breck's long history of leadership development for our faculty and administrators.

Ms. Soderberg will be fully engaged during the remainder of the school year at Breck and will continue to be deeply involved in planning for the Upper School transformation currently underway.

Breck will soon commence a national search for an Upper School director.
