Ethan Richter '22 has been notified by the National Geographic Society that he is one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2017 Minnesota National Geographic State Bee. The contest will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017. Kiwi Sundeen, a junior at Breck, was looking for an opportunity to continue giving back to the community. After spending a year volunteering during Breck’s weekly community partnership program, she realized the impact we each can have in our community. Congratulations to Breck seniors (l-r) Genevieve Weiler, Elena Berman, and Connor Ott! They were all named as finalists in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. They will go on to compete for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million, which will be announced from April to July.

Members of Breck’s Academic WorldQuest Team are state champions! Congratulations to Cole Maxwell ’18, Darlene Radichel ’19, Brett Schoppert ’19, and Jack Weinstein ’19 who all won an all-expenses paid trip to Washington D.C., during the Minnesota Academic WorldQuest competition on February 2. The team participated in 11, five-question rounds, scoring 89 percent overall with second place coming in at 85 percent. Head of School Edward Kim announced that two faculty members were awarded sabbaticals for the 2017-18 school year. Upper School Math Instructor Mary Gentry (right) will spend the year learning about 21st century math education.
